Light for its output, no clear weak spot
The AIKO Comet 1N Mono-Glass (605W-630W) series was designed to extract more energy from the same rooftop surface while simultaneously simplifying the installation process. Its key advantage lies in the XBC (back contact) technology - eliminating front busbars, which reduces shading losses on the cells and enhances module aesthetics. In practice, this translates to better energy yields in real-world conditions, especially at high operating temperatures, where its favorable temperature coefficient provides benefits.
The Comet 1N also boasts a lower BOS: higher power per module simplifies the system by reducing the number of panels, components, and connection points, accelerating installation and organizing cabling. From an operational standpoint, resistance to micro-cracks is crucial, supporting long-term reliability on industrial halls, warehouses, and commercial buildings.
This is an excellent choice for C&I investors seeking to maximize energy production from limited rooftop space and shorten the payback period without compromising on longevity.
Ranking
Signals from the data
Commercial, utility-scale and hot-climate.
Top 10% of the Back Contact 600-650 W segment, against a median of 50.4. Ranked 274th in the whole database.
Top 16% of the Back Contact 600-650 W segment, against a median of 23.70%.
Top 16% of the Back Contact 600-650 W segment, against a median of 236.9.
The efficiency of 24.2-24.4% surpasses all direct competitors: Jinko Tiger Neo (23.32%), Canadian Solar TOPBiHiKu6 (23.3%), and Leapton (22.54%) - with a lead of 0.9-1.9 percentage points. This means a real increase in kWh generated from the same roof area, without the need to increase the number of modules.
The absence of front busbars eliminates self-shading of individual cells and expands the active light-receiving surface by approximately 1.8% compared to conventional modules. In laboratory tests conducted by CEA PV Tech, AIKO ABC modules achieved the best results among the tested technologies in terms of performance under partial shading.
The -0.26%/°C coefficient is better than the typical TOPCon (-0.29%/°C) and significantly better than PERC (-0.40%/°C). At an operating temperature of 80°C, this translates to approximately a 1.7% higher power output compared to a TOPCon module - a significant advantage for C&I installations on dark roofs of warehouses and industrial buildings.
The N-type substrate completely eliminates LID and LeTID. Guaranteed degradation: ≤1% in the first year, ≤0.35%/year in the subsequent 29 years; the manufacturer guarantees ≥88.85% of the nominal power after 30 years. These are better parameters than standard 30-year linear warranties on the market, which specify a degradation rate of 0.40-0.45%/year.
The series won the 2023 Intersolar Innovation Award and the 2023 Red Dot Design Award, which are independent accolades recognizing the technological innovation and quality of execution by specialized industry bodies.
Comet 1N is a single-sided (mono-glass) module, while the two main competitors with the same rated power of 630 Wp - Jinko Tiger Neo 66HL4M-BDV and Canadian Solar TOPBiHiKu6 - are bifacial. In installations on bright surfaces (white mounting structure, white membrane), bifaciality provides an additional 5-15% in energy yield, which Comet 1N does not offer.
The back contact technology is more complex to manufacture than mass-produced TOPCon, which translates to a higher CAPEX/Wa ratio compared to comparable Jinko or Canadian Solar modules. For projects with limited budgets, the price difference may not be fully offset by the efficiency gains, especially in less sunny locations.
- Efficiency of 24.2% matches the Back Contact 600-650W median
- At 241.9 W/m² power density, this panel generates 5.0 W/m² more per unit area than Back Contact 600-650W median (236.9 W/m²)
- At -0.26%/°C, hot weather performance is typical for Back Contact 600-650W panels
- At 27.0 kg, this panel is 5.3 kg lighter than Back Contact 600-650W median (32.3 kg) - easier handling during installation
- Ranked #206 out of 14129 panels for efficiency in the database
