The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS / HVM series comprises high-voltage energy storage units featuring a tower design, which can be built from modules and expanded during operation-without replacing the entire system. A key advantage is the LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) chemistry, free of cobalt, valued for its high thermal safety, operational stability, and long lifespan compared to NMC, which is particularly significant in home power plants, garages, or technical rooms. The system boasts modular scalability-you can precisely match the capacity to your self-consumption needs and easily expand it later, including by connecting several identical towers in parallel. Installation is facilitated by internal plug-in module connections, reducing installation time and cable work. The series is designed for compatibility with multiple 1- and 3-phase inverters and hybrid systems, and in backup/off-grid modes, it can power critical circuits. A 10-year warranty and high cyclic endurance limit ensure predictable costs and trouble-free operation for years.

Pros and cons
LFP cells do not exhibit the exothermic chain reaction characteristic of NMC cells under internal short circuits or overloads. When combined with IP55 protection, this allows for installation in a garage, boiler room, or technical room without the dedicated ventilation typically required by cobalt-based batteries.
HVS builds towers with capacities of 5.1-12.8 kWh (2-5 modules), while HVM builds towers with capacities of 8.3-22.1 kWh (3-8 modules). Connecting three identical towers in parallel provides capacities of 38.4 or 66.2 kWh - offering flexible scaling from small prosumer applications to semi-commercial facilities without the need for battery control units (BCUs).
The official compatibility list for version 2.21 (May 2025) includes, among others, Fronius GEN24 Plus, SMA Tripower X, SolarEdge StorEdge, Victron Multiplus II, GoodWe ET Plus+, and Kostal Plenticore Plus - essentially, every popular 1- and 3-phase inverter available on the European market is natively supported by CAN/RS485.
The modules are mechanically and electrically connected directly within the tower; eliminating separate cables between the modules reduces installation time and eliminates a whole class of installation errors (incorrect polarization, loose connections).
BYD has been listed on BNEF's Tier-1 list for years. The Premium HVS/HVM warranty guarantees at least 70% of usable capacity after 10 years of operation (BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS&HVM Limited Warranty Europe V1.2 document), which, with a typical of 1-1.5 cycles per day, translates to over 4000 full cycles covered by the warranty.
BYD is expected to discontinue production of the HVS/HVM models around 2024, replacing them with the HVS+/HVM+ models, which feature a new BCU (Battery Control Unit). The availability of original BCU components on the open market is limited and will decrease; obtaining after-sales service support after the expiration of the 10-year warranty (around 2034) may become difficult or unavailable.
The declared efficiency of the RT system is 96% (according to the V1.9 datasheet), while Huawei LUNA2000-7/10/15 and Sungrow SBR256 achieve approximately 97.5%. With an annual charging volume of 4000 kWh, the difference in losses is approximately 60 kWh/year - equivalent to a few days of autonomy.
