How to Choose a Home Battery
1. Match Your Inverter
Most batteries are tied to a specific inverter brand. Enphase batteries require Enphase microinverters; SolarEdge batteries require the SolarEdge Home Hub. Check compatibility before purchasing.
2. Size for Your Needs
A typical home uses 30–40 kWh per day. An overnight storage buffer of 10–15 kWh covers most evening consumption. Size up if you want full-home backup.
3. Check Round-Trip Efficiency
Every battery loses some energy converting solar DC to stored DC and back to AC. Higher round-trip efficiency (90%+) means more of your solar generation ends up powering your home.
4. Compare Warranties
Battery warranties specify years AND cycle counts. A 15-year / 4,000-cycle warranty is significantly stronger than a 10-year warranty with no cycle floor. Factor this into the total cost of ownership.
