The SolarEdge StorEdge series are hybrid inverters (on-grid with energy storage capability) that seamlessly integrate PV generation, energy consumption management, and battery charging into a unified system. The key advantage lies in DC coupling-energy from the modules can flow directly to the storage system without unnecessary conversions, helping reduce losses and significantly increase autarky. StorEdge employs the concept of working with power optimizers, so the number of MPPTs is typically one, but in practice, you gain design flexibility: different roof orientations and partial shading are better "decoupled" at the module level, resulting in more stable yields.

High European efficiency means better performance under typical operating conditions in Poland, not just in the lab. Additionally, monitoring via the portal and app, along with Ethernet or WiFi communication, simplifies diagnostics and energy flow control. This series is designed for residential and small commercial installations, with compatibility with energy storage systems, as well as required grid certification certificates and the ability to extend warranty.

Pros and cons

What owners get
DC Coupling - Minimal Conversion Losses

The DC-coupled architecture allows the battery storage system to be charged directly from the PV array, bypassing the redundant DC→AC→DC conversion stage. According to SolarEdge data, this translates to a round-trip efficiency of approximately 93.3%, whereas typical AC-coupled systems incur an additional 5-8% loss on every conversion cycle.

High Inverter Efficiency (Up to 99%)

The StorEdge series achieves peak efficiency of 97-99% (select HD-Wave models), with a European efficiency rating of approximately 97.6%, placing it among the top performers in the hybrid inverter segment. For a typical 5 kWp residential prosumer installation, this translates to an additional 40-80 kWh of annual yield compared to inverters operating at 95% efficiency.

Module-Level Monitoring + SafeDC

Through integration with power optimizers, users can view the individual output of each module via the SolarEdge app and monitoring portal. The SafeDC feature reduces string voltage to 1 V whenever communication between an optimizer and the inverter is lost, significantly enhancing fire safety - a requirement increasingly enforced by fire authorities.

Flexible Warranty Up to 25 Years

The standard inverter warranty is 12 years - above the industry baseline of 5-10 years - with extension options to 20 or 25 years. Power optimizers carry a 25-year warranty, reducing overall TCO risk for the end investor.

Shading Resilience and Complex Roof Compatibility

The single MPPT of the hybrid inverter does not limit system flexibility, thanks to module-level power optimizers: different roof orientations, partial shading, and mixed-wattage modules can all be handled within a single string without compromising whole-string yield - a structural advantage over conventional multi-MPPT inverters without module-level optimization.

Trade-offs
Pricing 20-40% Above Segment Median

StorEdge inverters are priced on average 20-40% higher than comparable Tier-1 hybrid models (e.g., Fronius Symo GEN24, Huawei SUN2000-L1). System cost increases further by the price of the required power optimizers (~€40-80 per unit), which can be difficult to justify for standard installations with no shading challenges.

Closed Ecosystem - Battery Lock-In to SolarEdge

Energy storage compatible with StorEdge inverters is primarily limited to SolarEdge's own Home Battery; integration with third-party batteries (beyond select LG RESU models in legacy configurations) is restricted or unsupported. Should an investor decide to switch battery brands, they may face the need to replace the entire inverter.

About the StorEdge series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

How does DC coupling work in the SolarEdge StorEdge inverter, and why does it matter?
In the StorEdge system, energy from PV modules flows directly to the battery on the DC side, eliminating the intermediate AC conversion and back. This avoids double energy losses during battery charging, which translates into a measurably higher self-consumption rate. Compared to AC-coupled systems, DC coupling can improve the overall charge-discharge cycle efficiency by several percentage points.
Which batteries are compatible with the SolarEdge StorEdge?
The three-phase StorEdge models (SE5K-RWS through SE10K-RWS) are compatible with 48 V low-voltage batteries, including the BYD Premium LVS and LG Chem RESU 48 V, with usable capacities ranging from 4 to 24 kWh. Single-phase models also support the LG Chem RESU7H and RESU10H. Battery communication is handled via CAN or RS485, ensuring full integration with the energy management system.
How many MPPT inputs does the StorEdge have, and does this limit installations on multiple roof facets?
The StorEdge features a single DC input MPPT; however, this is not a practical limitation. The series is designed to work in conjunction with SolarEdge power optimizers installed at each individual module. The optimizers handle maximum power point tracking at the panel level, so varying roof orientations, partial shading, or mixed azimuths are all handled correctly without any yield loss.
What is the warranty on the SolarEdge StorEdge inverter, and can it be extended?
The standard warranty on StorEdge inverters is 12 years. It can be extended to 20 or even 25 years by purchasing a SolarEdge extended warranty package. Power optimizers carry a separate 25-year warranty. It is advisable to factor in the cost of warranty extension during the initial project planning stage.
What power ratings does the SolarEdge StorEdge series offer, and what type of installations is it designed for?
The three-phase StorEdge line is available in 5, 7, 8, and 10 kW versions (models SE5K-RWS, SE7K-RWS, SE8K-RWS, and SE10K-RWS). The series targets residential and small commercial installations where combining PV generation with energy storage is a priority. A European efficiency rating of 97.6% ensures the inverter operates effectively under the variable climatic conditions typical of Poland.
How does monitoring work for the SolarEdge StorEdge system, and can it be managed remotely?
StorEdge provides monitoring through the dedicated SolarEdge monitoring portal and a mobile application. The inverter connects to the internet via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, enabling real-time tracking of production, consumption, battery state of charge, and energy flows. The application also supports module-level diagnostics using data from the power optimizers, significantly simplifying fault detection and troubleshooting.
