Growatt MOD 3000-9000TL3-HU series are three-phase hybrid (battery ready) inverters for on-grid installations, designed to operate as a classic grid-tie today and easily expand with a battery energy storage system tomorrow. The integrated backup function sets them apart - eliminating the need for an additional backup box, simplifying the design and reducing the number of components in the installation.

The dual MPPT helps on rooftops with various connections or partial shading by independently optimizing the performance of two PV strings - making it easier to configure different module orientations and maintain stable energy production. High European efficiency means better yields in real climatic and grid conditions in Poland, not just in the lab.

Standard features include extensive communication and monitoring options via the app and WiFi modules, as well as service interfaces (e.g., RS485/USB), making production monitoring and diagnostics convenient. Additional safety is supported by features such as Type II surge protection and AFCI. The series is CE-certified and comes with a 10-year warranty - making it an excellent choice for homes and small commercial properties.

Pros and cons

5 positive · 2 caution
What owners get
Built-in ATS with no external module required

The integrated backup system (ATS) eliminates the need to purchase a separate backup box, which is required in comparable solutions (e.g., SMA Backup Box ~1000-1500 PLN). This simplifies the installation process and reduces the number of potential points of failure.

European efficiency: 98.1%

The declared European efficiency of 98.1% (maximum 98.6%) is equal to or slightly higher than that of SMA Sunny Tripower (~97.9%) and Fronius Symo (~97.9%), which, in the Polish climate (many hours with irradiance below STC), translates into a significantly higher annual yield.

AFCI + SPD Type II, to standard

AFCI arc-fault protection and SPD (surge protection device) Class II are included in the device's price. At this price point (~4000 PLN for a 3-phase model), most European manufacturers offer these protections as optional paid features or require separate modules.

Leader of the residential segment - Tier 1, S&P Global

Growatt secured the number 1 position as the leading global supplier of inverters for residential solar installations in 2024, according to Wood Mackenzie and S&P Global Commodity Insights. In October 2025, Growatt also achieved official Tier 1 PV Inverter Supplier status from S&P Global, confirming its availability of service, spare parts, and ongoing software development.

Attractive price versus premium European brands

A three-phase model with backup functionality costs approximately 4000 PLN, while the SMA Sunny Tripower 5.0 costs around 5500 PLN, and the Fronius Symo 5.0-3-M costs approximately 6000 PLN - representing a difference of 35-50% despite similar efficiency and more comprehensive standard features (backup, AFCI).

Trade-offs
Not a Tier 1 BNEF Bankable entity

Growatt does not appear on the BloombergNEF Tier 1 Bankable list (context: tier_1_bankable: false), which could be a barrier for projects requiring bank financing based on BNEF criteria. This should be distinguished from the Tier 1 status awarded by S&P Global (using a separate methodology).

10-year warranty, with an optional extended warranty of up to 20 years.

The standard warranty is 10 years, while SMA offers an extension up to 20 years (through its Smart Connected program), and Fronius offers optional packages that extend protection for up to 20 years for an additional fee. For installations with a 25-year investment horizon, the lack of a paid extension option may be a significant limitation.

About the MOD 3000-9000TL3-HU series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

Can the Growatt MOD TL3-HU inverter operate immediately without a battery, with storage added at a later stage?
Yes - this is the primary advantage of the MOD 3000-9000TL3-HU series. Immediately after installation, the unit operates as a standard grid-tied (on-grid) inverter. When you decide to add energy storage, simply connect compatible high-voltage batteries (e.g., APX HV, 5-30 kWh) without replacing the inverter. This approach reduces upfront costs and allows you to expand the system whenever it makes financial sense.
Does the Growatt MOD TL3-HU provide backup power during a grid blackout without any additional device?
Yes. The MOD 3000-9000TL3-HU series features a built-in backup function that switches selected circuits to island mode without requiring a separate backup box. This simplifies system design and reduces overall balance-of-system (BoS) costs. The backup function is active only when batteries are connected - the inverter alone, without energy storage, cannot supply power during a grid outage.
Will the dual MPPT in the Growatt MOD TL3-HU benefit a roof with two orientations or partial shading?
Absolutely. The two independent MPPT trackers allow strings from differently oriented roof faces (e.g., south and west) or strings of different power ratings to be connected and optimized separately. Because each string is tracked independently, shading from a chimney or dormer on one roof face does not reduce output from the other. This is a key advantage for the dual-pitched roofs typical of Polish residential installations.
What warranty does the Growatt MOD 3000-9000TL3-HU inverter carry?
Growatt provides a standard 10-year warranty. In the event of a failure, the Polish Growatt office coordinates unit replacement, with a typical lead time of approximately 5 business days. Service support is also available 7 days a week, from 08:00 to 20:00. The warranty can optionally be extended to 15 or 20 years.
Does the Growatt MOD TL3-HU inverter include AFCI protection, and why does it matter?
Yes, the MOD TL3-HU series is equipped with Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) functionality. AFCI continuously monitors the DC wiring and disconnects the circuit before arc faults from a damaged cable or connector can cause a fire. While not yet a statutory requirement in Poland, AFCI significantly enhances installation safety - particularly in attic spaces and areas with timber roof structures.
How can production data from the Growatt MOD TL3-HU be monitored, and is an additional communication module required?
As standard, the inverter supports communication via Wi-Fi, RS485, and USB, making production data accessible through the ShinePhone app at no additional cost. For installations requiring integration with BMS platforms or third-party devices, an Ethernet port is also available. Monitoring covers real-time power output, daily energy yield, and historical production data.
