The Fronius Symo GEN24 / GEN24 Plus series are modern three-phase grid-tie inverters, and in the Plus version, also hybrid inverters, designed for compatibility with energy storage systems and backup power supplies. A key feature is the PV Point, which provides integrated off-grid power supply for basic loads during a grid outage, along with the option to expand to Full Backup. This enables uninterrupted operation of the entire home, even with demanding loads, provided the installation is properly configured. Two independent MPPT sections facilitate optimization of energy yield when modules are on different roof pitches or when part of the system is intermittently shaded. The high European efficiency results in significantly reduced losses under typical operating conditions in Poland, delivering more usable energy annually. Standard features include advanced communication - Wi-Fi and Ethernet, built-in data logging, integration with Solar.web, and support for Modbus and API. The GEN24 Plus is compatible with compatible energy storage systems (e.g., BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS/HVM), making this series an excellent choice for homes and small commercial properties prioritizing self-consumption, monitoring, and resilience against power outages.

Pros and cons

5 positive · 3 caution
What owners get
PV Point - battery-free backup power

The integrated PV Point output provides up to 3 kW of power during grid outages, even without a battery storage system - a unique feature among comparable Tier 1 hybrid inverters (Huawei SUN2000 and SolarEdge Home Hub require a connected battery to activate backup mode). This provides real value for installations where battery storage is planned for the future.

Peak efficiency: 98.1-98.2%

According to the official datasheet from Fronius, the maximum efficiency is 98.1-98.2%, placing the series among the best three-phase string inverters. The transformerless design reduces thermal losses, which translates into higher annual yield under typical Polish solar irradiation conditions.

Full Backup using Multi Flow technology

Models 6.0-10.0 kW Plus support the Full Backup mode with Multi Flow technology, enabling simultaneous power supply to household appliances, battery charging, and PV energy harvesting during island mode - without interruption of power supply during grid outages. Most competitors in the segment (SMA Sunny Tripower) require a separate switching module.

Active cooling - eliminates the need for temperature derating

The Active Cooling Technology system prevents power derating (reduction in power output) at high ambient temperatures, which is important when installing on roofs or in poorly ventilated cabinets. Competitive models with passive cooling (e.g., Huawei SUN2000-10KTL-M1) can reduce power output as low as 45°C.

An extensive ecosystem for monitoring and integration

Standard features: WiFi, Ethernet, built-in data logger, Solar.web platform, Modbus TCP, and an open API - eliminating the need to purchase an external communication module (e.g., a separate gateway is required for SolarEdge). This simplifies integration with BMS, smart home, and energy management systems.

Trade-offs
Price above the segment's median

The retail price in Poland is approximately 10,440 PLN for the 6.0 kW Plus model (~1,740 PLN/kW) and approximately 12,800 PLN for the 10.0 kW Plus model (~1,280 PLN/kW). Comparable three-phase hybrid inverters (Huawei SUN2000-10KTL-M1 with LUNA2000) are available in the 6,000-9,000 PLN range, which represents an approximate 20-40% premium for the Fronius brand.

The standard warranty is only 5 years.

Fronius offers a standard 5-year warranty with an optional extension to 10 years for a fee, while SolarEdge provides a standard 12-year warranty, and some Huawei distributors offer 10 years. For prosumer installations with a 20-25-year investment horizon, this requires factoring in the cost of the extended warranty.

A narrow ecosystem of compatible storage facilities

Officially certified batteries include only the BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS (5.1-12.8 kWh) and HVM (8.3-22.1 kWh) models, as well as the LG RESU FLEX. The lack of native integration with popular brands like Pylontech or SolarEdge/Huawei storage systems in Poland limits choices and could affect the price of the system when expanding.

About the Fronius Symo GEN24 / GEN24 Plus series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

What are the key differences between the Fronius Symo GEN24 and the GEN24 Plus version?
The Fronius Symo GEN24 is a grid-tied inverter designed exclusively for use with the electrical grid. The GEN24 Plus version is a hybrid inverter that also supports energy storage and offers backup power functionality: an integrated PV Point and the option to expand to Full Backup mode. If you plan to connect a battery or require backup power during grid outages, you should choose the Plus version.
What is the PV Point in the Fronius GEN24 Plus inverter, and does it replace a backup generator?
The PV Point is a built-in single-phase emergency output that is automatically activated when the mains power fails. It allows you to power selected devices up to 3 kW in power, such as a refrigerator, router, or lighting, without the need to purchase a separate energy storage unit. However, it cannot replace a generator for larger loads or power three-phase devices. To power an entire home, a Full Backup mode with a compatible battery is required.
Which energy storage systems are compatible with the Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus?
The Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus is factory-integrated with BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS and HVM batteries. The cascading capability allows for the connection of up to three batteries in parallel to a single inverter, achieving high capacities. The system manages charging and discharging according to pre-defined schedules (time-of-use), which increases self-consumption and reduces energy bills.
What is the warranty period for the Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus inverter?
The standard manufacturer's warranty for Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus inverters is 2 years. After registering the device on the Fronius Solar.web platform, the warranty is automatically extended to 7 years. Registration is free and takes only a few minutes, so it is advisable to complete it immediately after installing the system.
Will the Fronius Symo GEN24 Plus perform adequately when solar panels are installed on two different roof sections?
Yes, the GEN24 Plus series features two independent MPPT sections, which allows you to connect strings of panels with different orientations or angles and optimize them independently. This prevents one string from negatively impacting the performance of the others, and the inverter can also operate efficiently even when part of the installation is partially shaded, for example by a chimney or skylight.
In what configurations is the Fronius Symo GEN24 and GEN24 Plus series available?
The Fronius Symo GEN24 series includes three-phase models with rated power from 3.0 kW to 10.0 kW, while the GEN24 Plus line is available from 3.0 kW to 10.0 kW, and the SC (special version for larger installations) reaches 12.0 kW. The wide range of power options makes this series suitable for both typical single-family homes and small commercial buildings.
