The Ultra S mini series from Suntech consists of compact monocrystalline modules designed for installations where every square meter of roof space counts - the smaller footprint lets you fit more panels into limited areas without sacrificing power output. The panels use half-cut cell technology, splitting cells in half to reduce resistive losses and improve resistance to microcracks and partial shading. Suntech's current sorting process minimizes losses caused by current mismatch between cells, translating into higher overall system yield. The modules also deliver excellent low-light performance, generating more energy on cloudy days, in the morning, and at dusk - a real advantage in climates with variable sunlight. A lower operating temperature and favorable power temperature coefficient help maintain steadier output during hot summer months. The design has passed extended wind and snow load testing, and the IP68-rated junction box ensures reliable sealing in demanding environments - coastal areas, farms, or regions with high humidity. A long 25-year linear warranty makes this series a solid choice for both residential installations and smaller commercial projects where reliability on limited available space is the priority.

About the Ultra S mini series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this module's own.

Are Suntech Ultra S mini panels suitable for a small roof with limited space?
Yes, that is the main purpose of this series. The compact module footprint lets you fit more panels on the same roof area without sacrificing power output - the module reaches up to 385 Wp despite smaller dimensions than standard 72-cell panels. It works well on roofs with multiple planes, dormers, or chimneys, where every centimeter counts.
What is the half-cut technology in the Suntech Ultra S mini and does it actually make a difference?
Cells are cut in half, which reduces the current flowing through each cell and therefore resistive losses and heating within the module. In practice this means higher efficiency, lower risk of microcracks, and better tolerance to partial shading - a shaded half-cell doesn't block the entire string the way it would in a conventional panel.
What warranty comes with the Suntech Ultra S mini 385 Wp panels?
The manufacturer offers a 12-year product warranty covering materials and workmanship, plus a 25-year linear power warranty, standard for modern Tier 1 modules. This means a guaranteed, gradually declining power output over a quarter century, rather than just a single threshold at year 25 as with older-generation panels.
Do Ultra S mini panels perform well on cloudy days and in low-light conditions?
Yes, the series is optimized for low-irradiance performance - it generates more energy early in the morning, in the evening, and on overcast days compared to older module designs. This matters in climates with limited full-sun hours, since annual energy yield depends heavily on how a module behaves under diffuse light.
What is the IP68 junction box on the Ultra S mini for, and does it hold up in coastal environments?
The IP68 junction box provides the highest commonly used ingress protection rating - it shields electrical connections from dust and prolonged submersion, not just rain. This matters for coastal installations, solar farms, or high-humidity regions, where cheaper IP65 boxes degrade faster from corrosion and moisture.
Are Suntech Ultra S mini panels bifacial?
No, these are mono-facial modules with a full frame and a standard backsheet rather than a glass rear layer. On compact installations mounted close to the roof surface, the extra yield from a bifacial panel would be minimal anyway, so a mono-facial design is a cheaper and equally sensible choice.
