The Sharp NU-JC series are modules designed for high efficiency, even under less-than-ideal conditions. The use of half-cut monocrystalline cells minimizes internal losses and helps maintain stable performance even with partial shading, which in practice translates to better energy yield from the same surface area. You may also find PERC or N-type TOPCon technology in selected variants, which allows the modules to better utilize diffuse light and maintain their parameters over time.

The positive power tolerance is also noteworthy, which reduces the risk of underestimating the performance of the installation in real-world conditions. The series is designed for long-term reliability, as evidenced by, among other things, high hail resistance and a focus on dependability over the long term.

It is a good choice for residential and small commercial installations, where predictable performance, aesthetics (available black versions), and greater tolerance for difficult mounting conditions are important.

About the NU-JC Series series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this module's own.

Is the Sharp NU-JC Series still available for purchase?
The Sharp NU-JC Series has been discontinued. Sharp closed its European solar module sales division in March 2025, so no new stock is being supplied directly from the manufacturer. Any remaining availability is limited to distributor inventory. Before purchasing, confirm current stock levels and warranty service conditions directly with your supplier.
What is TOPCon cell technology used in Sharp NU-JC panels and why does it matter?
TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) is an N-type cell technology in which a thin tunnel oxide layer passivates the contacts and significantly reduces charge carrier recombination. In practice, this translates to higher cell efficiency (up to 22.28% in the NU-JC Series), better performance under diffuse light on overcast days, and slower long-term power degradation compared to older PERC cells.
What warranty is included with Sharp NU-JC solar panels?
Sharp offers a 25-year product warranty and a 25-year linear power output warranty. The positive power tolerance further reduces the risk of a module delivering less energy than the system design assumes. Since Sharp has exited the European market, we recommend confirming warranty claim procedures in writing with your distributor before purchasing remaining stock.
Do Sharp NU-JC panels handle partial shading from a chimney or dormer well?
Yes, the half-cut cell layout significantly improves shade tolerance. Each cell is split in two, so shading one section of the module does not block the output of the remaining sections. The N-type TOPCon technology also boosts performance under diffuse irradiance, resulting in better energy yields during overcast days or at low sun angles typical of northern European climates.
Is there an all-black or black-frame version of the Sharp NU-JC Series?
Yes, Sharp offered black-frame variants within the NU-JC Series, including the full-black NU-JC430B model. This is a solid choice for homeowners who value installation aesthetics, as the panels blend in with dark roof tiles without the contrast of a silver frame. Since the series is discontinued, confirm the specific color variant's availability with your distributor before ordering.
What is the peak power output of a Sharp NU-JC panel and how many do I need for a typical home?
The flagship model in the series reaches a peak power output of 435 Wp at approximately 22.28% efficiency. For a typical home consuming 4,000-5,000 kWh per year, around 9-12 panels are usually sufficient, resulting in a system size of roughly 3.9-5.2 kWp. The high per-panel wattage is especially useful on roofs with limited usable area, since the same energy target is met with fewer modules.
