Warranty pick, heavy for its output
JA Solar JAM72D20 440-465/MB/1500V series is designed for installations where high energy yield from the same surface area and reliable performance in variable conditions are key. The half-cut architecture minimizes power losses in the module and improves performance under partial shading, resulting in more stable yields on rooftops with chimneys, skylights, or ground-mounted systems with seasonal shading.
The key feature is the combination of PERC technology with a bifacial design, enabling the module to utilize reflected light from the ground. Additionally, the 1500 V standard simplifies longer string designs, supports cable optimization, and helps reduce BOS costs in larger systems.
This is an excellent choice for utility-scale PV farms, commercial and industrial installations, and large rooftops, where higher yield per square meter, better shading tolerance, bifacial potential, and easier string optimization in 1500 V are crucial.

Weight-limited structures, roofs where every square metre has to count and tight roof space.
Top 17% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 25 yrs.
Bottom 8% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 53.0. Ranked 12,637th in the whole database.
Bottom 12% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 206.2.
Bottom 13% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 20.60%.
The bifacial design with 144 half-cut cells (2×72) captures reflected irradiance from the ground. At typical albedo values (grass: ~20%, concrete/gravel: ~30%), rear-side contribution adds 10–25% to annual energy yield compared to monofacial modules, meaningfully improving LCOE for ground-mount and large commercial rooftop systems.
A 1500 V system voltage enables longer string configurations and reduces the number of DC cables and MPPT inputs per installed MW. For utility-scale PV farms and commercial installations, this translates to a several-percent reduction in BoS costs compared to 1000 V designs, with a direct positive impact on project economics.
JA Solar guarantees ≥98% of rated power after year 1 and ≥85% Pnom after 30 years, backed by a 12-year product warranty. The extended warranty horizon supports DCF modeling in PPA structures and simplifies due diligence for institutional investors and project lenders.
JA Solar has been continuously listed on the BNEF Tier-1 module manufacturer ranking (confirmed on the Q2 2026 list). Tier-1 status requires non-recourse financing by at least six banks in projects of ≥10 MW each, directly simplifying third-party project finance for installations using these modules.
A Pmax temperature coefficient of -0.35%/°C places this module at the top end of performance for PERC technology (typical PERC range: -0.35 to -0.40%/°C), limiting thermal power losses on hot days and improving annual energy yield in high-irradiance climates.
The JAM72D20 series ended production in 2023 after three years on the market (released 2020). Limited availability of new modules complicates identical-spec system expansions, and declining spare parts inventory may extend service response times over a 20–30-year operational lifetime.
Maximum module efficiency is 20.9%, while the comparable Jinko Solar JS182MHC120 reaches 21.48% (+0.58 pp absolute). This translates to approximately 2.8% less energy output per unit of roof or ground area, a meaningful penalty where available installation space is constrained.
PERC's share of global cell production dropped from ~70% in 2023 to ~20% in 2024, displaced by TOPCon (>65% share). Commercial TOPCon modules achieve 22–23% efficiency and a superior temperature coefficient (~-0.30%/°C). Specifying PERC in 2026 carries lower perceived residual asset value and complicates future capacity additions requiring matched module specs.
- At 20.0% efficiency, this panel is 0.6pp below the PERC 400-450W median of 20.6%
- Power density of 199.8 W/m² is 6.4 W/m² below PERC 400-450W median (206.2 W/m²) - needs more roof space
- At -0.35%/°C, hot weather performance is typical for PERC 400-450W panels
- At 27.3 kg, this panel is 5.3 kg heavier than the PERC 400-450W median (22.0 kg) - more demanding for installation crews
- Bifacial design (70% factor) captures reflected light - adds 4-10% yield on ground-mount or white roof
