Space saver, no clear weak spot
The JA Solar JAM72D40 MB series was designed to maximize energy yield in installations where every meter of structure counts. This is a bifacial module in glass-glass construction, capable of utilizing reflected light from light-colored surfaces, roof membranes, or snow, boosting energy production without increasing panel surface area. The n-type cells (TOPCon / Bycium+) feature extremely low degradation over time and more stable performance under real-world conditions - even with weaker sunlight or higher temperatures.
An additional advantage is the half-cut and multi busbar architecture, which minimizes resistive losses and improves tolerance to partial shading, which is crucial for installations with obstacles and dense layouts. The JAM72D40 MB series is ideal for PV farms, commercial installations, carports, and large flat roofs, where energy yield, reliability, and lower energy cost over the installation's lifetime are top priorities.

Signals from the data
Commercial, utility-scale, shaded-installations and hot-climate.
Top 21% of the TOPCon 600-650 W segment, against a median of 227.7.
Top 23% of the TOPCon 600-650 W segment, against a median of 22.80%.
The series ranks significantly above two of the three peer comparables in the same power segment: JS Solar JS210MHC120 achieves 21.4% and LEDVANCE M585~605P60UB-SF-F3 only 21.37%, trailing by 1.2 pp and 2.0 pp respectively. Only GCL SIROT NT10/72GDF approaches this level (23.42%), confirming JAM72D40 MB's top-tier position among large-format 72-cell modules.
N-type cell architecture eliminates LID caused by boron-oxygen complexes; the warranted annual degradation rate is 0.4%/year versus ~0.55%/year typical for PERC technology. The temperature coefficient of Pmax at approximately -0.30%/°C delivers more stable output under high-temperature conditions and variable irradiance.
The dual-glass bifacial design captures energy from reflected irradiance off ground surfaces — at albedo values of 15–40%, realistic bifacial gain in field conditions ranges from 5–15% without increasing array footprint. The 16-busbar half-cut architecture reduces resistive losses and improves partial-shading tolerance, beneficial for commercial rooftops and carport installations.
JA Solar warrants ≤0.4%/year degradation for 30 years, retaining >88% of nominal power at end of warranty. The market standard among peer comparables is 25 years — the 5-year advantage reduces financial risk and LCOE for commercial and utility-scale projects without requiring early module replacement.
JA Solar has maintained BNEF Tier-1 status for over a decade and qualifies for non-recourse project financing with major international banks. For commercial and utility-scale installations this translates to easier access to project finance and credible 30-year warranty enforcement over the full module lifecycle.
NREL (PVRW 2025) and PVEL accelerated testing data show that over 50% of TOPCon modules exceed 5% power loss under UV-induced degradation (UVID) protocols. This risk applies to the entire N-type TOPCon technology class; unified IEC standards for UVID are still under development, and JA Solar has not publicly released UVID certification results for the JAM72D40 MB series.
The glass-glass 72-cell construction results in a 31.8 kg module weight and 2278×1134×30 mm dimensions, requiring a minimum two-person installation crew and potentially limiting use on rooftops with restricted access or older structures with low load-bearing capacity. The series is impractical for small residential pitched-roof installations.
- At 23.2% efficiency, this panel is on par with typical TOPCon 600-650W modules
- Power density of 232.3 W/m² packs 4.6 W/m² more into the same footprint vs TOPCon 600-650W median (227.7 W/m²)
- Temperature coefficient of -0.29%/°C matches the TOPCon 600-650W median
- 80% bifaciality enables rear-side power generation, boosting yield by 4-12% on reflective surfaces
- In the top 9% for efficiency among all TOPCon panels
