Light for its output, no clear weak spot
The JA Solar JAM54S30 390-415/MR series consists of panels based on half-cell technology, which significantly improve system performance in difficult lighting conditions. Thanks to the use of Deep Blue 3.0 cell technology, these modules offer higher energy conversion efficiency, which translates directly into a faster return on investment for owners of single-family homes and small businesses. The multi-busbar design minimizes the risk of micro-cracks and effectively reduces resistance losses, clearly distinguishing them from older solutions offered by competitors. The use of Half-cut structure ensures the panel works much more efficiently under partial shading, which is crucial on complex roof surfaces with dormers or chimneys. This product is ideal for investors looking for an optimal compromise between high power and a compact size, making installation easier in limited spaces. This series addresses the cell degradation problem thanks to high resistance to the PID effect, which guarantees stable electricity production for many decades of use. By choosing these modules, investors gain the assurance of stable operation even in extreme temperatures. It is a versatile solution for the residential sector, combining modern design with industrial durability, setting new standards in the mid-power module segment. An additional advantage is the optimized cost of energy LCOE, making this series one of the most cost-effective options currently available on the Polish photovoltaic market.
Ranking
Signals from the data
Residential, commercial and shaded-installations.
Top 5% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 53.0. Ranked 1,446th in the whole database.
Top 8% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 20.60%. Ranked 8,519th in the whole database.
Top 11% of the PERC 400-450 W segment, against a median of 206.2.
The 415 Wp variant reaches 21.3% module efficiency, edging out direct comparables: AE Solar AURORA AE MD-108 (21.28%), LEDVANCE M395~415P54LM-BF-F3 (21.25%), and Aptos Solar DNA-108-Monofacial (21.25%). Higher specific yield per unit roof area.
The 11-busbar (11BB) gapless ribbon design combined with a 108-cell half-cut configuration (1722×1134×30 mm, 19.5 kg) lowers series resistance and reduces microcracks compared to legacy 5–9BB modules. Splitting each cell electrically isolates the top and bottom halves of the module, limiting mismatch losses under partial shading.
Pmax TC of −0.35%/°C sits at the favorable end of the PERC range (typical: −0.35 to −0.40%/°C), yielding approximately 1.5–2% more annual output versus modules rated at −0.40%/°C when cell temperatures regularly reach 55–65°C during summer operation in Central European climates.
JA Solar has maintained BNEF Tier-1 bankable-manufacturer status for over a decade and remains listed in the Q1 2026 report. Tier-1 classification requires supplying at least six projects exceeding 10 MW each, financed by independent commercial banks within 24 months, underwriting the credibility of the 25-year linear power warranty (≥84.8% of rated output).
The JAM54S30 390–415/MR line was discontinued in 2023. New replacement modules are scarce on the market; expanding or repairing an installation after 2025 may make it impossible to source an identical module, risking MPPT string mismatch.
Monofacial PERC exhibits higher LID (~2–3% initial degradation) compared to N-type TOPCon cells (<1% LID). Newer JA Solar lines (e.g., JAM54D40 TOPCon, released 2022+) deliver a lower annual degradation rate (~0.40%/yr vs ~0.55%/yr for PERC), compounding to a 3–4% cumulative output difference over a 25-year project horizon.
The product workmanship warranty covers 12 years, while the market standard for new Tier-1 launches since 2022–2023 (including newer JA Solar lines, Jinko Tiger Neo, Trina Vertex S+) is 15 years. The shorter coverage window raises the risk of out-of-pocket repair costs between years 13 and 15 of operation.
The series is strictly monofacial, whereas the direct peer LEDVANCE M395~415P54LM-BF-F3 delivers bifacial output at the same 415 W / 21.25% efficiency rating. On high-albedo surfaces (pale gravel, concrete, snow; albedo ≥0.25), bifacial panels capture an additional 5–15% energy from the rear side — a meaningful yield gap for ground-mount or flat-roof installations.
- Efficiency of 21.3% is 0.7pp above the PERC 400-450W median (20.6%)
- At 212.5 W/m² power density, this panel generates 6.3 W/m² more per unit area than PERC 400-450W median (206.2 W/m²)
- Temperature coefficient of -0.35%/°C matches the PERC 400-450W median
- 19.5 kg weight - 2.5 kg lighter than PERC 400-450W median (22.0 kg), reducing installation effort
- Ranked #8519 out of 14005 panels for efficiency in the database
