Middle of its segment, heavy for its output
The Silk Rhino series from FuturaSun was engineered for installations exposed to extreme weather conditions - hail, strong winds, and heavy snow loads. At the heart of the module are n-type half-cut cells, which ensure stable performance and lower energy losses even under partial shading. The series' standout feature, however, is its certified HW5 hail resistance - the panel withstands impacts from 50 mm ice balls traveling at speeds over 110 km/h, making it one of the most durable solutions available on the market. This resilience is achieved through a reinforced frame structure with additional aluminum bars and thicker tempered glass with an anti-reflective coating, which also allows the module to handle high snow loads. For investors and installers, this means a lower risk of mechanical damage, and consequently, reduced service costs and greater peace of mind over the long-term operation of the installation. The Silk Rhino series is particularly well suited for regions with unstable climates and for rooftops exposed to harsh weather conditions, where standard panels could be damaged. An additional advantage is low annual power degradation, which translates into stable energy yield throughout the entire lifespan of the installation.
Ranking
Signals from the data
Residential and commercial.
Weight-limited structures and owners who want a long output guarantee.
Bottom 5% of the TOPCon 400-450 W segment, against a median of 51.4. Ranked 12,266th in the whole database.
Bottom 7% of the TOPCon 400-450 W segment, against a median of 30 yrs. Ranked 9,798th in the whole database.
The module withstands 50 mm diameter ice balls at speeds above 110 km/h, a result rarely matched in the N-type segment and a clear differentiator versus standard panels certified only to lower hail classes.
A reinforced frame with additional aluminum rear bars enables wind load resistance up to 5,400 Pa and snow load up to 7,800 Pa, well above the typical 2,400/5,400 Pa range of standard modules, making the series suitable for roofs in regions with harsh weather conditions.
Efficiency of 22.02-22.77% is on par with leading segment peers (LEDVANCE 22.77%, Sunlike Solar 22.8%) and exceeds older-generation PERC modules by 1-2 percentage points.
N-type cells exhibit lower LID/LeTID degradation than conventional PERC, translating into more stable energy yield over the system's lifetime, reflected in the manufacturer's claim of low annual power degradation.
FuturaSun has operated since 2008 and is headquartered in Italy, simplifying warranty claims within the European market compared to non-EU manufacturers.
The 15-year product warranty is shorter than that offered by some competing N-type manufacturers in the 2026 market (25-30 years, e.g. Trina Vertex N, JinkoSolar Tiger Neo), which may affect bankability assessments for certain financing institutions.
Available technical documentation lists a Class C fire rating, whereas some EU jurisdictions (e.g. dense/adjacent construction) prefer or require Class A - installers should verify local code compliance before mounting near property lines.
- Efficiency of 22.3% matches the TOPCon 400-450W median
- Power density of 222.7 W/m² matches the TOPCon 400-450W median
- At -0.29%/°C, hot weather performance is typical for TOPCon 400-450W panels
- At 26.6 kg (4.6 kg above TOPCon 400-450W median of 22.0 kg), requires checking roof load capacity
- Ranked #5481 out of 14005 panels for efficiency in the database
