Light for its output, short guarantee
The BYD NLK-27 series is a series of N-Type TOPCon bifacial modules designed for high performance in real-world conditions, even when weather is less than ideal. Thanks to its bifacial design, the panel can also utilize reflected light from the ground, which helps to increase energy production on roofs, gravel, or in ground-mounted installations. The use of N-type cells in the TOPCon technology results in more stable operation and a lower risk of performance degradation over time, and the claimed Zero LID resistance is important for investors seeking long-term returns.
The NLK-27 also features SMBB (multi-busbar) technology, which improves current collection and better handles partial shading, reducing losses. In practice, this means more predictable performance and easier installation design.
It is a good choice for single-family homes, businesses, and PV farms, especially where high compatibility with inverters and trackers, and resistance to demanding operating environments are important.
Ranking
Signals from the data
Residential and commercial.
Owners who want a long output guarantee and hot climates.
Top 12% of the TOPCon 450-500 W segment, against a median of 52.2.
Top 14% of the TOPCon 450-500 W segment, against a median of 225.2.
Top 14% of the TOPCon 450-500 W segment, against a median of 22.52%.
Bottom 3% of the TOPCon 450-500 W segment, against a median of 30 yrs. Ranked 9,798th in the whole database.
Bottom 20% of the TOPCon 450-500 W segment, against a median of -0.290.
The 450 Wp variant achieves 23.04% efficiency, placing the NLK-27 on par with the best comparable models (SunKean SKT430~450M10-108D5: 23.04%). The Suntech Ultra V Pro mini series in the same power range tops out at 22.5% — more than half a percentage point lower — a measurable advantage when planning installations on roof space-constrained sites.
N-type TOPCon technology delivers a Pmax temperature coefficient of -0.30%/°C, outperforming typical PERC modules (-0.35% to -0.40%/°C). Under Polish conditions, where module temperatures can reach 60–75°C above STC in summer, this translates to 1.5–3% higher energy yield compared to legacy technologies.
N-type cells are structurally immune to Light-Induced Degradation (LID), and the warranted annual degradation rate below 0.7% ensures retention of 85.8% of nominal power after 25 years. For a typical 10 kWp system, this means 500–800 kWh/year more production in year 20 compared to a PERC module with a standard degradation profile.
BYD is listed among BNEF bankable manufacturers (Q1 2026), facilitating non-recourse project financing and satisfying the requirements of many lending institutions for utility-scale PV projects. The scale and operational track record of the BYD Group (since 1995) significantly reduces the risk of the warranty guarantor ceasing operations before the 25-year power warranty expires.
The bifacial design enables absorption of light reflected from the ground surface, delivering +5–15% yield gain in ground-mounted installations with light-colored gravel or concrete (albedo >0.25). SMBB (multi-busbar) technology further reduces losses under partial shading and lowers series resistance — critical for longer strings in large-scale PV farms.
Premium-tier manufacturers such as REC Group (20 years) and Q CELLS (15 years) offer longer coverage against material and workmanship defects. The BYD NLK-27's 12-year product warranty may be a limiting factor for commercial installations with a contractual horizon of 15+ years, where mechanical or electrical defects arising after that period fall entirely on the asset owner.
