The Sungrow SG150CX series comprises commercial-grade three-phase grid-tie inverters, designed for large rooftops and PV farms where reliable operation and rapid diagnostics are essential. What sets them apart is their multi-channel MPPT architecture - seven independent trackers facilitate managing strings with varying exposures and lengths, and genuinely minimize losses during partial shading. Additionally, Global MPPT scanning is implemented to help maximize energy yield in variable weather conditions.
Furthermore, high European efficiency is crucial - it signifies better energy production under typical operating conditions, not just in laboratory settings. Intelligent string monitoring, I-V diagnostics, and safety features (including arc detection) simplify service support. Communication includes RS485, with Ethernet/WiLAN and an app option available for expanded monitoring. The enhanced environmental resistance of the housing and standard 10-year warranty make the SG150CX a sensible choice for C&I installations demanding reliability.

Pros and cons
A peak efficiency of 98.8% (datasheet V5, March 2025) places the SG150CX at the forefront of the 150 kW C&I string inverter segment. The high part-load efficiency translates directly into improved annual energy yield under typical European operating conditions, where installations rarely run near rated power.
Seven independent MPPT trackers with a 180-1000 V input range allow strings of different orientations and lengths to be combined without cross-string losses. The PowerMax Global MPPT Scanning function actively eliminates local maxima on the P-V curve; Sungrow documents a verified yield improvement of more than 2% under variable irradiance and partial-shading conditions.
The built-in arc-fault circuit interrupter (AFCI 3.0) covers DC cables up to 450 m from the inverter - a significant advantage on large PV plants with long cable runs. The smart string switch detects a fault and disconnects the affected circuit in under 20 ms, meeting IEC 62109-2 requirements and materially reducing fire risk.
An IP66 ingress-protection rating and a C5 anti-corrosion certification enable deployment in marine, desert, and high-altitude environments. Rated continuous operation at +60°C without power derating and at altitudes up to 4,000 m above sea level is particularly valuable for projects in challenging climatic locations.
Sungrow ranked first in the BloombergNEF bankability assessment for the sixth consecutive year (2025), achieving 100% name recognition among surveyed financing institutions. For C&I projects requiring non-recourse project finance debt, this translates into lower perceived credit risk and improved access to favorable terms from lenders and insurers.
The SG150CX is rated exclusively for 1,000 V DC systems (Vdc max 1,100 V). Modern C&I and utility-scale installations above ~2 MWp are increasingly designed for 1,500 V DC - including competing platforms such as the Huawei SUN2000-215KTL-H0 and SMA Sunny Highpower PEAK3 - enabling longer string configurations, reduced wiring runs, and lower BoS costs. Selecting the SG150CX for large-scale plants means foregoing these savings.
The ECOOLIN™ thermal management system relies on active forced-air circulation; the inverter is not a fanless design. Cooling fans are consumable components - in continuous operation in dusty environments (ground-mount farms, industrial facilities) they require cleaning and replacement every 5-7 years, adding an O&M cost that is absent in natural-convection inverter designs.
The standard communications interface is RS485; full network monitoring - including Ethernet, WLAN, and integration with the iSolarCloud platform - requires the purchase of a separate external communications module (data logger / smart meter). For installations that require remote diagnostics from day one, this represents an additional hardware and commissioning cost not included in the base inverter price.
