The SolarEdge StorEdge series are hybrid inverters designed for PV systems with energy storage - where higher self-consumption and the possibility of emergency backup power or system expansion are key. The key feature is DC coupling, which allows energy from the modules to reach the battery without additional conversions along the way, reducing losses and improving the energy yield balance typical of a year in Poland.

Instead of the classic approach based solely on MPPT in the inverter, StorEdge uses module-level optimization, resulting in better performance under shading, different roof orientations, and uneven soiling. In practice, this offers more flexible string designs than in standard string inverters.

On a daily basis, you'll appreciate online monitoring with visibility into production, consumption, and battery status, along with convenient operation and diagnostics via the app. Communication can operate via Ethernet or WiFi (depending on the version/configuration). The solution is primarily targeted at residential and small commercial installations, with formal requirements including grid compliance and a robust, long-term manufacturer warranty.

Pros and cons

What owners get
DC Coupling - Minimal Conversion Losses

The StorEdge DC-coupled architecture allows the battery to be charged directly from PV strings, eliminating an intermediate AC/DC conversion stage. Rated inverter efficiency reaches 99% (HD-Wave), and the storage round-trip efficiency is ~94.5% per official SolarEdge data - well above typical AC-coupled systems (~90-92%).

Module-Level Power Optimization

Each module operates with a dedicated Power Optimizer, eliminating the weakest-link effect within a string. In practice, under partial shading or on roofs with multiple orientations, annual energy yield is measurably higher than with conventional string inverters without optimizers - the difference reaches several percentage points under Polish climatic conditions.

Real-Time Module-Level Monitoring

The SolarEdge Monitoring Portal provides visibility into production, consumption, and battery state-of-charge down to the individual module level. It is one of the most fully featured monitoring platforms in the residential hybrid inverter segment, clearly outpacing offerings such as the Huawei SUN2000-L or the Sungrow SH series when deployed without supplemental AC metering.

12-25-Year Inverter Warranty

The standard warranty period is 12 years, extendable to 20 or 25 years, while Power Optimizers carry a 25-year manufacturer warranty. By comparison, most competitors (Fronius, Growatt) offer a standard 5-10-year term with a paid extension to 20 years.

Eligibility for the Mój Prąd 6.0 Subsidy Program

StorEdge systems meet the eligibility criteria for energy storage subsidies under the Mój Prąd 6.0 program, which provides reimbursement of up to PLN 16,000. Since August 2024, energy storage has been required for new PV installations, positioning StorEdge as a ready-to-deploy, all-in-one solution for the Polish market.

Trade-offs
End of Support for LG Chem RESU Batteries (7H/10H)

As of April 1, 2024, SolarEdge officially discontinued support for new installations using the LG Chem RESU7H and RESU10H batteries. This restricts energy storage options for new StorEdge projects and prevents capacity expansion on existing systems built around these models.

System Cost 20-40% Above Segment Median

SolarEdge StorEdge is priced approximately 20-40% higher than comparable Tier-1 hybrid inverters (Sungrow SH, Huawei SUN2000-L). Adding the mandatory per-module Power Optimizers (approx. PLN 200-300 per unit) further increases the total installed cost, which can be difficult to justify for standard installations without significant partial shading.

Extended Warranty Service Lead Times

Independent reviews (Clean Energy Reviews, SolarQuotes) and installer reports highlight difficulties in spare parts availability and long wait times for SolarEdge warranty claim resolution. This can result in multi-week system downtime in the event of an inverter failure.

About the SolarEdge StorEdge series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

What warranty is provided for the SolarEdge StorEdge inverter?
The SolarEdge StorEdge comes with a standard manufacturer's warranty of 12 years, extendable to 20 or 25 years. The power optimizers paired with the inverter carry a 25-year warranty. It is also worth noting that when the system is used in conjunction with the SolarEdge Home Battery, the battery warranty is 10 years, with a guaranteed minimum of 70% capacity retention at the end of the warranty period.
Which batteries are compatible with the SolarEdge StorEdge?
The SolarEdge StorEdge is compatible with high-voltage LG Chem RESU batteries (including the RESU10H and RESU7H) as well as 48 V batteries such as the BYD Premium LVS, which allow for capacity configurations ranging from 4 to 24 kWh. With support for both CAN and RS485 communication buses, installers have the flexibility to select the appropriate energy storage unit to meet the specific needs of a given household.
What is the difference between the SolarEdge StorEdge and a standard SolarEdge grid-tie inverter?
The key distinction is DC-coupled battery integration. Energy from the PV panels is directed to the battery without any additional power conversion, which reduces energy losses and improves annual yield figures. A standard SolarEdge grid-tie inverter does not support energy storage or backup power functionality. The StorEdge is a fully hybrid solution that allows the installation to be expanded with a backup capability in the event of a grid outage.
What power ratings are available in the SolarEdge StorEdge series, and what types of installations are they intended for?
The StorEdge series is available in 5, 7, 8, and 10 kW variants. This range covers typical residential installations (5-8 kW) as well as smaller commercial applications (8-10 kW). The choice of power rating depends on the building's energy demand, the planned battery capacity, and the number of power optimizers mounted on the panels.
Does the SolarEdge StorEdge support online monitoring, and how does its diagnostics functionality work?
Yes, the inverter integrates with the SolarEdge monitoring platform, accessible via both a web browser and a mobile application. Users can monitor real-time energy production, current consumption, and battery state of charge. Communication with the router is established via Ethernet or Wi-Fi, depending on the unit version and configuration. The application also supports remote commissioning and basic diagnostics, eliminating the need for an on-site installer visit in many cases.
Is the SolarEdge StorEdge suitable for rooftops with partial shading?
Yes, this is one of the primary advantages of this solution. The StorEdge works in conjunction with power optimizers installed at each individual module, which eliminates the weakest-link effect inherent in a series string. Under partial shading caused by a chimney, antenna, or tree, the remaining panels continue to operate at full efficiency. This results in significantly higher energy yields compared to a conventional string inverter operating without power optimizers.
