The Growatt MID series are three-phase on-grid (grid-tie) inverters primarily designed for commercial and industrial installations, where stable operation, design flexibility, and efficient service support are crucial. Depending on the variant, configurations with 2/3 or 3/4 MPPT are available, facilitating the division of installations into independent sections - for example, for different roof orientations, varied tilt angles, or partial shading. This translates to better optimization of yields under real-world conditions.

High efficiency, including favorable European efficiency, means lower losses under typical loads and more predictable energy production throughout the year. Standard safety features include surge protectors (DC/AC), and optionally, arc detection.

Monitoring is done through the Shine ecosystem - with WiFi or Ethernet modules and convenient viewing in the app and portal. For investors planning expansion, variants battery ready (XH) are available, designed for future integration with energy storage systems without costly modifications.

Pros and cons

5 positive · 3 caution
What owners get
High conversion efficiency

The MID series achieves a maximum efficiency of 98.8% and an efficiency comparable to European standards (~98.5%) (according to MID 25-40KTL3-X datasheets), placing it among the top-performing three-phase inverters in the C&I (Commercial & Industrial) category and resulting in significantly lower losses even under variable loads throughout the year.

Flexible MPPT Configuration

The availability of variants with 2/3 or 3/4 independent MPPT trackers (DC voltage range of 200-1000 V) allows for the design of installations with different roof orientations or partial shading, without the need for external optimizers, which reduces the overall system cost.

IP66 + SPD Type II DC and AC, standard

IP66 protection (resistance to heavy rain and dust) and built-in surge protection devices (SPD) of Type II on both sides (DC and AC) are standard features in the base version of the series, while some competitors in this segment only offer SPDs as an optional, paid feature.

Battery Ready (XH) variants without additional hardware

MID 11-30KTL3-XH models are equipped with pre-installed connectors and firmware for seamless integration of a storage system without replacing the inverter. In commercial installations with planned expansion, this eliminates future replacement costs, typically ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 zł per connection point.

Monitoring of Shine WiFi/Ethernet in standard

The integrated RS485 interface, with the option of a WiFi or Ethernet module, and integration with the Growatt ShineServer platform, enable remote management and alarming without the need for an additional data logger - a significant cost saving in multi-inverter installations.

Trade-offs
Not classified as a Tier 1 bankable asset (BNEF)

Growatt is not listed on Bloomberg NEF's Tier 1 list for inverters, which could make it difficult or impossible to obtain project financing from banks that require bankable equipment. This represents a significant barrier for commercial installations financed with investment loans or leases, compared to SMA, Fronius, or Huawei.

Reports from installers regarding higher failure rates

Independent installer reviews (including SolarQuotes AU and Paradise Solar Energy) indicate a higher failure rate for Growatt inverters compared to premium-class European competitors. This means that for commercial properties with high availability requirements (e.g., industrial facilities, shopping malls), the cost of downtime must be factored into the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) analysis.

A brief overview of the producer's track record (since 2010)

Growatt has been in operation since 2010, which is approximately 15 years, compared to SMA (since 1981, 45 years) or Fronius (since 1945). In the context of commercial installations with a 25-year lifespan, a shorter market presence is a factor of risk when assessing the long-term availability of service and spare parts.

About the MID series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

What types of installations is the Growatt MID series suited for - is it only for large businesses?
The Growatt MID is a line of three-phase on-grid inverters available in power ratings from 11 to 50 kW, positioning them firmly in the commercial and industrial segment - office buildings, warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and larger service properties. With an appropriate system design, they can also operate in large prosumer installations connected to a three-phase grid. These inverters are not intended for typical single-family residential applications with a single-phase grid connection.
What is the warranty on Growatt MID inverters, and can it be extended?
The standard manufacturer's warranty for the Growatt MID series is 10 years. Growatt offers an extended warranty option of up to 15 years for models rated up to 22 kW. For higher-power models, the warranty can be extended up to 10 years from the installation date. Prerequisites include registering the device in the Growatt system and meeting all applicable service requirements.
What is the difference between the Growatt MID KTL3-X and the KTL3-XH, and which one should I choose?
The KTL3-X is a conventional on-grid inverter with no provision for energy storage integration. The KTL3-XH is a battery-ready variant - it features dedicated battery interfaces (2 battery ports) that allow an energy storage system (e.g., APX HV batteries up to 60 kWh) to be connected without reworking the installation or replacing the inverter. If you plan to add a battery at any point in the future, it is strongly recommended to choose the XH model from the outset.
How does system monitoring work with a Growatt MID inverter, and do I need a separate device?
Monitoring is handled through the Growatt Shine ecosystem. The inverter requires a dedicated communication module - either a Wi-Fi module (ShineWiFi-X) or an Ethernet module (ShineLAN-X), both sold separately. Once configured, real-time production data is accessible via the ShinePhone app (available for iOS and Android) and through the ShineServer web portal. The application is fully available in Polish.
How many MPPT trackers do Growatt MID inverters have, and why does this matter for installations across multiple roof sections?
Depending on the model, the MID series offers 2, 3, or 4 independent MPPT trackers. Each MPPT operates as a separate tracking channel - panels mounted on different roof sections, oriented at different azimuths or tilt angles, or subject to different shading patterns can be assigned to individual MPPTs. This ensures that each array section operates at its own maximum power point, so suboptimal conditions in one zone do not reduce the energy yield of the remaining sections.
What is the efficiency of Growatt MID inverters, and does it translate into real-world savings?
The peak efficiency of MID series models reaches 98.75-98.8%, and a favorable weighted European efficiency (Euro η) minimizes conversion losses under the variable irradiance conditions typical of Central European climates. In practical terms, less than 1.3% of the energy generated by the PV array is lost during DC/AC conversion - which, for a 30-50 kW system, results in measurably higher annual energy production compared with inverters offering lower efficiency ratings.
