The GoodWe BH series comprises single-phase inverters of the retrofit AC-coupled type, designed for modernizing existing on-grid installations with energy storage - without replacing the previous string inverter. This grid-tie solution features backup functionality: in the event of a grid outage, it switches to backup mode according to the UPS standard, enabling critical circuits to continue operating.
You won’t find traditional MPPT for panels in the BH inverter, as it operates on the AC side - instead, it intelligently manages battery charging and discharging, increasing self-consumption and limiting energy fed back to the grid. Its high European efficiency ensures better performance in weather and load conditions typical of Poland.
A major advantage is the quiet operation without a fan, compact housing, and simplified installation thanks to Plug & Play solutions and pre-configured communication. Monitoring is handled through the GoodWe platform (app and portal), and integration with storage systems is straightforward - the BH works with various batteries, including GoodWe Lynx Home F and selected market models. This series is particularly suitable for single-family homes and small commercial properties, where quick retrofitting, safety, compliance with grid connection requirements, and manufacturer warranty are key considerations.

Pros and cons
AC-coupled architecture allows for the addition of energy storage to any existing on-grid system - regardless of the make and model of the original inverter. This eliminates the cost and time associated with inverter replacement, effectively reducing the modernization process from 2-3 days to just 1 day.
According to the GoodWe datasheet, the switchover time to standalone mode is less than 10 ms, which meets the requirements of online UPS standards. Standard hybrid inverters without UPS certification have switchover times of 20-100 ms, which can cause IT devices to restart or pumps to lose pressure.
Natural convection eliminates moving parts and the risk of fan failure. With a noise level below 35 dB (spec sheet) and an IP65 sealing, it can be mounted both in a garage and outdoors without the need for an additional enclosure.
Compatibility with a wide range of HV batteries (including GoodWe Lynx Home F, BYD HVL, and other 48-400 V LFP/NMC batteries) gives installers the flexibility to choose batteries without having to match the nominal voltage to a specific inverter.
According to the official GoodWe datasheet, the efficiency of 96.0% is comparable to that of leading AC-coupled competitors (e.g., SolarEdge Energy Hub AC: ~96.5%), which minimizes conversion losses under typical Polish climatic conditions, particularly with frequent partial shading.
In an AC-coupled system, energy from the panels passes through two inverters: a string inverter (DC to AC) and a battery inverter (AC to DC to AC during battery discharge). The round-trip efficiency is approximately 92-93% compared to ~95-96% for DC-coupled hybrid systems (e.g., GoodWe ET/EH). This translates to a real annual energy loss of 30-45 kWh.
The BH series is exclusively available in 3-6 kW variants for single-phase networks. For homes with three-phase connections or peak demand exceeding 6 kW, it is necessary to switch to the BT (three-phase) or hybrid DC-coupled series, which limits the flexibility of retrofitting for larger buildings.
