The Ginlong Solis S5-GC series are three-phase grid-tie inverters designed specifically for commercial and industrial installations, where reliable operation, easy maintenance, and high energy production throughout the year are crucial. Depending on the model, several independent MPPTs are available, facilitating yield optimization for different roof orientations, varied string configurations, and partial shading-each tracker operates at its maximum power point.

Real-world performance in Polish conditions is influenced by high European efficiency, which better describes the inverter's behavior under typical load ranges, resulting in fewer losses and better annual yields. The standard includes comprehensive safety features, including AFCI to mitigate fire risk, and an IP-class enclosure enabling outdoor mounting. Monitoring is done via RS485, while remote viewing and reporting are available through optional Wi-Fi or GPRS modules, compatible with control platform/applications for installation performance monitoring. The series offers a typical 10-year warranty for this segment and complies with key grid connection standards.

Pros and cons

5 positive · 2 caution
What owners get
European efficiency ~98.1-98.3%

The S5-GC50K and S5-GC100K models achieve a maximum efficiency of 98.8%, with a CEC/European efficiency of 98.1-98.3%. The European efficiency, weighted for the actual solar radiation profile in central Europe, places the series among the leading commercial string inverters, and directly translates into higher annual yields in the Polish climate.

Support for up to 10 independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) controllers.

In models with power ratings of 80-100kW, 9-10 independent MPPTs are provided (DC voltage range of 180-1000 V, string current up to 32 A), which allows for the separate tracking of the maximum power point for each group of strings with different orientations or levels of shading. This is a significant advantage over inverters with 3-4 MPPTs, particularly for complex commercial and large-scale ground-mounted installations.

AFCI according to standard

Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter (AFCI) protection is built-in and doesn't require the purchase of an additional module. In commercial installations, AFCI reduces the risk of fire caused by hidden arc faults and is becoming a requirement for insurers and local building codes in an increasing number of European countries.

IP66 + C5 level of corrosion resistance

The IP66 sealing class and C5 anti-corrosion certification (the highest level for marine and industrial environments according to ISO 12944) allow for outdoor mounting in harsh weather conditions without the need for additional enclosures. This is particularly important for installations in ports, agricultural settings, and near industrial facilities.

BNEF's Tier 1 ranking and 3rd position globally

Ginlong Solis maintains its Tier 1 status from BloombergNEF in Q1 2025 and is the third-largest inverter manufacturer globally. The Tier 1 status facilitates the financing of commercial projects - financial institutions (banks, project finance funds) accept Tier 1 devices without additional technical audits, streamlining the due diligence process.

Trade-offs
WiFi/GPRS only as an optional feature

The wireless communication module (WiFi or GPRS) is not a standard component - it requires a separate dongle to be purchased. In comparison to the Huawei SUN2000-G2, where the WiFi/4G module is factory-integrated, this results in an additional cost (approximately 100-200 zł/unit) and a potential point of failure, particularly in distributed installations with multiple inverters.

The S5 generation is being upgraded with the newer S6-GC model.

Solis has introduced the S6-GC series to the market, offering a wider range of full-power MPPT and simplified DC cabling. While the S5-GC is still actively sold and covered by warranty, when purchasing a new system with a lifespan of 20-25 years, it is important to consider that the priorities for technical support and the availability of spare parts may shift towards newer generations over time.

About the S5-GC series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this model's own.

How many independent MPPT controllers does the Ginlong Solis S5-GC inverter have, and why is this important?
Depending on the model, the S5-GC series offers between 4 and 10 independent MPPT (Maximum Power Point Tracking) trackers. This allows each string of panels to operate at its optimal power point, which is crucial for commercial installations where roof sections have different orientations or are partially shaded by other roof elements or nearby structures. More MPPT trackers directly translate into higher annual energy yields.
What is the warranty for the Solis S5-GC series, and is it possible to extend it?
The standard warranty for Solis S5-GC inverters is 10 years. Ginlong Solis allows this to be extended to 15 or even 20 years through an appropriate service package. This is an important parameter when calculating the cost-effectiveness of commercial installations, where the inverter operates for many years without needing to be replaced.
Can the Solis S5-GC inverter be mounted outdoors?
Yes, the S5-GC series enclosure has an IP66 protection rating, which means it is completely protected against dust and strong water jets. The inverter can be mounted directly on the facade or external structure without the need for an additional protective enclosure. The permissible operating temperature range is from -25°C to +60°C, so Polish weather conditions are not a problem.
What is the AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interrupter) in the Solis S5-GC inverter, and does it actually protect against fire?
AFCI (Arc Fault Circuit Interruption) is a system designed to detect electrical arcs within a DC circuit - the primary cause of fires in photovoltaic installations. The S5-GC inverters have AFCI built-in as standard. When the system detects an abnormal arc discharge, it immediately disconnects the circuit. In commercial installations, where fire losses can be significant, this is one of the most important safety features.
How to remotely monitor the operation of a Solis S5-GC inverter-based solar power system?
The inverter communicates via RS485, and optional WiFi or GPRS modules can be connected to its interface for remote monitoring. Data is transmitted to the SolisCloud platform, where it is possible to track production, alarms, and reports from a web browser or mobile app. For commercial installations, it is also possible to integrate with energy management systems using the Modbus protocol.
What types of installations are suitable for the Ginlong Solis S5-GC series - is it a string inverter for a home?
The S5-GC series consists of three-phase grid-tied inverters with power ratings ranging from several tens to over 100 kW, designed exclusively for commercial and industrial applications, such as production halls, warehouses, logistics centers, or solar farms. Other Solis series, such as the S5-GR or RHI (with hybrid functionality), are designed for typical prosumer installations in single-family homes.
