The QUASAR series is Phono Solar's answer to installations where maximizing energy yield matters even under partial shading and harsh weather conditions. The panels combine N-type back-contact cell technology with zero busbar (0BB) cell interconnection, keeping optical losses to a minimum and allowing the module to handle partial shading far better than conventional designs with visible busbars on the cell surface. The dual-glass (bifacial) construction - reinforced heat-strengthened glass on both the front and rear - delivers a rigid, moisture-resistant laminate along with an additional energy gain from light reflected onto the back side of the module. QUASAR is suited both for rooftop installations on single-family homes and for projects that demand extra mechanical durability - the series has passed testing for hail impact, salt mist exposure, and high wind loads, making it a solid choice in regions with variable and demanding climates. The manufacturer backs the modules with a 30-year product and linear power warranty, translating into a lower cost of energy over the system's lifecycle (LCOE) and greater investment security for installers and investors alike.

Bottom 22% of the Back Contact 450-500 W segment, against a median of 23.52%.

What owners get
N-type back-contact cells with 0BB

The absence of visible busbars on the cell surface (0BB) combined with back-contact technology minimizes optical losses and improves aesthetics, with efficiency reaching 23.27% at 475 Wp.

Dual-glass bifacial construction

Heat-strengthened glass at 2.0 mm (front) and 1.6 mm (rear) delivers high laminate rigidity and moisture resistance, while bifaciality enables additional energy yield from reflective surfaces such as light-colored ground or metal roofs.

30-year product and linear power warranty

The manufacturer guarantees at least 88.5% of nominal power after 30 years of operation - well above the industry standard of 25 years/84.8-87.4%, which meaningfully lowers system LCOE.

Proven resistance to harsh conditions

The series has passed hail resistance testing up to 35 mm, salt mist certification at severity level 6, and cyclone testing, making it a solid choice for coastal regions and variable climates.

BNEF Tier-1 bankable manufacturer

Phono Solar (part of the SUMEC/SINOMACH group, founded in 2004) has held a place on Bloomberg NEF's Tier-1 list continuously since 2014, simplifying project financing through banks and funds.

Trade-offs
Efficiency slightly below peers

At the same 475 Wp power class, competitors JA Solar (JAM54D40 LB) and Astronergy (ASTRO N7s 2.0) reach 23.8% efficiency versus 23.27% for QUASAR - a roughly 0.5 pp gap that translates into a slightly larger module footprint for the same output.

Limited long-term field data

The series launched in 2025, so independent multi-year operational data confirming real-world power degradation is not yet available, unlike more established TOPCon/PERC designs.

About the QUASAR series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this module's own.

What is back-contact cell technology in Phono Solar QUASAR panels and does it offer a real advantage?
Back-contact technology places all cell interconnection busbars on the rear side of the cell rather than on the front surface as in conventional panels. This allows the entire front surface to actively capture light, improving efficiency and giving the module a uniform, dark appearance without visible busbar lines. In QUASAR, this is combined with 0BB (zero busbar) interconnection, further reducing optical losses and improving performance under partial shading.
Do QUASAR panels perform well under partial roof shading, such as from a chimney or antenna?
Yes, this is one of the series' main strengths. Thanks to N-type back-contact cells and 0BB interconnection, the module handles partial shading much better than traditional panels with visible busbars on the cell surface. Reduced optical losses mean energy output declines less sharply when part of the panel is shaded by a chimney, antenna, or nearby tree.
What does the dual-glass (bifacial) construction in QUASAR mean, and is it worth the extra cost?
Bifacial construction means tempered glass on both the front and rear of the module, allowing the panel to generate extra energy from light reflected off the ground surface beneath it. This increases total energy yield, especially over bright surfaces like gravel, white roofing, or snow. The glass backsheet also increases laminate rigidity and moisture resistance, contributing to longer system lifespan.
What warranty does Phono Solar offer on QUASAR panels and what does it cover?
The manufacturer provides a 30-year product warranty and a 30-year linear power warranty. This covers both material and workmanship defects, as well as guaranteeing the module maintains a specified performance level throughout that period. Such a long warranty term reduces investment risk and contributes to a lower levelized cost of energy (LCOE) over the system's lifetime.
Are QUASAR panels suitable for harsh weather conditions such as hail or strong winds?
Yes, the QUASAR series has passed hail resistance, salt mist, and high wind load testing, confirming its suitability for regions with variable and demanding climates. The reinforced dual-glass construction further increases laminate rigidity and mechanical resistance, allowing the module to better withstand snow loads and wind gusts compared to standard single-glass panels.
What is the maximum power output of the QUASAR panel and what installations is it suited for?
QUASAR panels reach a maximum power output of up to 475 Wp, making them a versatile choice for residential rooftop installations on single-family homes as well as larger commercial projects requiring high mechanical durability. The high per-module power output reduces the number of panels needed to reach a target system capacity, simplifying installation and optimizing use of available roof space.
