Light for its output, short guarantee
Longi Solar Hi-MO X6 Scientist (LR7-54HTH 470-475M) was designed for maximum energy yield on a limited rooftop surface - without compromising aesthetics. The key advantage is the application of HPBC+ back-contact cell technology, which moves the conductive paths to the rear of the cell. This keeps the front module visually "clean" while collecting energy more efficiently, which is crucial when every square meter of installation space counts.
The modules also feature full rear welding, focused on higher resistance to micro-cracking and more stable performance over time - essential for operation in variable weather conditions. Additionally, the series' construction supports high reliability and minimizes the risk of performance degradation due to typical mounting stresses.
This is the choice for demanding residential and small commercial installations where power density, roof appearance, and predictable energy yield over years are top priorities. Compared to many standard modules, the Scientist series offers a more refined cell architecture and better quality control in details that make a practical difference.

Owners who want a long output guarantee.
Top 14% of the N-type 450-500 W segment, against a median of 49.7.
Top 15% of the N-type 450-500 W segment, against a median of 22.52%.
Top 20% of the N-type 450-500 W segment, against a median of 225.3.
Bottom 7% of the N-type 450-500 W segment, against a median of 30 yrs. Ranked 9,912th in the whole database.
Conductive pathways are moved to the rear of the cell, eliminating visible busbars and front-side grid lines. This boosts power density on limited roof area and improves module aesthetics - a real advantage for residential installs where every square meter counts.
Per the official datasheet, Pmax degrades only -0.28%/°C, notably better than typical PERC modules (usually -0.35 to -0.40%/°C). This translates into a real yield advantage during summer and on poorly ventilated roofs.
The construction reduces the risk of microcracks and degradation caused by mounting stress and thermal cycling, supporting more stable long-term module performance.
Longi Solar is one of the world's largest monocrystalline cell manufacturers with full tier-1 bankability status, reducing counterparty risk compared to less established brands in the peer set (e.g. Sun Earth).
Minimum 89.4% guaranteed power output at year 25 (linear degradation of ~0.44%/year after an initial 99% in year one), per the official datasheet - a standard consistent with the rest of the tier-1 offering in this segment.
Maximum efficiency of 23.3% is lower than competitors at the same 475 Wp power class - JA Solar JAM54D40 LB, Astronergy ASTRO N7s 2.0, and Sun Earth TITAN Dual GLASS all reach 23.8%. This means a somewhat larger module footprint is needed for the same power, partly offsetting the power-density benefit of HPBC+.
The series is monofacial only, while some comparable designs (e.g. Sun Earth TITAN Dual GLASS) offer bifacial versions that capture additional yield from reflected light in ground-mount or high-albedo installations.
The 25-year power warranty on Hi-MO X6 Scientist falls short of the 30-year power warranty Longi now offers on its newer Hi-MO X6 Max Scientist / Hi-MO 9 series with HPBC 2.0 technology - within the manufacturer's own portfolio, this model is no longer the flagship option.
- Efficiency of 23.3% is 0.8pp above the N-type 450-500W median (22.5%)
- Power density of 232.7 W/m² packs 7.4 W/m² more into the same footprint vs N-type 450-500W median (225.3 W/m²)
- Temperature coefficient of -0.28%/°C matches the N-type 450-500W median
- At 21.6 kg, this panel is 2.1 kg lighter than N-type 450-500W median (23.7 kg) - easier handling during installation
- In the top 7% for efficiency among all N-type panels
