The Longi Solar Hi-MO 6 Explorer series was designed to squeeze more energy out of every square meter of installation under real-world operating conditions - especially during hot summer months or when solar irradiance is weaker. The key advantage here is HPBC (back-contact) cell technology, which relocates electrical connections to the rear side of the cell. This results in not only higher performance but also a more uniform, modern appearance without visible busbars - delivering premium aesthetics highly valued on residential rooftops.

In practice, the Explorer addresses typical investor challenges: it enables greater energy yield from the same installation area and performs better under partial shading conditions. Additionally, full rear welding is employed, enhancing resistance to micro-cracks and improving durability during transportation and on the roof.

What owners get
HPBC back-contact technology

HPBC cells move electrical connections to the rear of the module, eliminating visible front-side busbars. The result is a uniform, all-black premium appearance plus reduced shading losses from busbars, translating into real gains under partial-shading conditions.

21.3% efficiency - top of segment

At 415 Wp, the 21.3% efficiency slightly edges out direct peers in the same power class: LEDVANCE M395~415P54LM-BF-F3 (21.25%), AE Solar AURORA AE MD-108 (21.28%), and Aptos Solar DNA 108 (21.25%).

Tier-1, bankable manufacturer

Longi Solar (founded 2000, headquartered in China) has for years been one of the world's largest module manufacturers, consistently rated Tier-1 by BNEF. This bankability simplifies project financing and insurance.

Full rear soldering

Full rear-side soldering increases resistance to microcracks arising during transport and installation, improving the module's long-term mechanical reliability.

Solid fit for residential and small C&I

The compact 415 Wp monofacial mono-crystalline format works well on typical pitched roofs, combining premium aesthetics with solid performance parameters without the price premium associated with bifacial technology.

Trade-offs
Production ended in 2023

The Hi-MO 6 Explorer series launched in 2022 and was already discontinued in 2023, superseded by the Hi-MO X6 Explorer line with higher HPBC cell efficiency (>25.5%). This short lifecycle means limited availability of service, spare parts, and identical matching modules for future array expansion.

No bifacial variant available

The panel is monofacial only, ruling out additional energy yield from rear-side light reflection available in competing bifacial designs when installed over light-reflective surfaces or ground-mounted racking.

Standard, not leading, warranty terms

15 years product and 25 years power warranty are typical for the segment rather than differentiating. Several newer N-type TOPCon panels on the market now offer 25-year product and 30-year linear power warranties.

Marginal efficiency edge over peers

The efficiency gap versus comparable models (21.3% vs 21.25-21.28%) is just 0.02-0.05 percentage points, which in practice delivers negligible energy advantage despite the premium HPBC positioning.

About the Hi-MO 6 Explorer series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this module's own.

What makes the HPBC cell technology in the Longi Solar Hi-MO 6 Explorer series stand out?
HPBC (Hybrid Passivated Back Contact) moves all electrical contacts to the rear of the cell, eliminating front-side busbars. This allows the front surface to absorb more light, improving conversion efficiency and boosting output under low irradiance and oblique light conditions. As a side effect, the module has a uniform, busbar-free appearance that is particularly valued in residential rooftop installations.
How does the Longi Hi-MO 6 Explorer handle high temperatures in summer?
The Hi-MO 6 Explorer performs better in heat than most standard modules. Its temperature coefficient of Pmax is only -0.29%/°C, compared to approximately -0.35%/°C for typical PERC cells. This means smaller power losses during hot summer afternoons when rooftop temperatures peak. The HPBC cell architecture is a key contributor to this lower thermal sensitivity, delivering a tangible real-world yield advantage.
What warranty does the Longi Solar Hi-MO 6 Explorer come with?
Longi Solar provides a 15-year product warranty covering manufacturing defects and a 25-year linear power output warranty. After 25 years of operation, the module is guaranteed to retain at least 88.9% of its nominal power. As a Tier 1 manufacturer, Longi Solar has the financial standing to back these warranties for the full operational lifetime of the system.
Are the Longi Hi-MO 6 Explorer panels bifacial? Can they be used on pergolas or elevated structures?
No, the Hi-MO 6 Explorer is a monofacial module - energy is generated from the front side only. It is not suitable for applications that rely on reflected albedo light, such as pergolas, carports over light-colored surfaces, or agri-PV installations. For standard pitched roof installations this is not a limitation, since rear-side irradiance is negligible in that context anyway.
Is the Longi Solar Hi-MO 6 Explorer series still available for purchase?
The Hi-MO 6 Explorer series has been discontinued. Longi Solar replaced it with the updated Hi-MO X6 Explorer line, which features a next-generation HPBC cell design. Some remaining stock may still be available through distributors, but complete deliveries for new projects cannot be guaranteed. If you are planning a new installation, ask your supplier about current availability within the X6 or newer product lines.
How much energy will a system built from Longi Hi-MO 6 Explorer 415 W panels produce annually?
Under typical Central European irradiance (roughly 1,000-1,100 kWh/m² per year), a single 415 W panel generates approximately 370-430 kWh annually, depending on location, roof tilt, and shading. A ten-panel system (approx. 4.15 kWp) typically covers 70-80% of an average household's electricity consumption. The HPBC technology's improved low-light and diffuse-light performance provides an additional yield advantage during autumn and winter months.
