The JA Solar P2 series is designed for high energy production under real-world conditions, even when the roof is partially shaded and the weather is not ideal. The use of advanced monocrystalline solar cells and a refined electrical architecture helps to minimize losses and maintain stable performance throughout the day. In practice, this means a more cost-effective installation - without the need to "over-size" the system solely to compensate for drops in performance during challenging periods.

Compared to many other competitive solutions, the P2 series emphasizes reliability and long-term stability of performance, which will be appreciated by investors planning installations for many years. The module design is optimized for resistance to micro-cracks and mounting stresses, while also supporting performance under lower sunlight conditions. This makes it a good choice for single-family homes, businesses, and larger roof projects, where low lifetime energy costs and predictable system performance are key.

What owners get
BNEF Tier-1 bankable manufacturer since 2005

JA Solar consistently appears on the BNEF Tier 1 bankable manufacturers list (confirmed Q1 2026), demonstrating the ability to supply projects exceeding 10 MW financed by at least six independent commercial banks. This ensures service availability, spare parts supply, and warranty obligations throughout the full 25-year operating lifetime.

Up to 17.1% efficiency - top of segment

Peak module efficiency of 17.1% matches the best result among peer comparables (MY Solar P2: 17.1%) and outperforms both ASM ASM170M and AU Optronics ASM Mono (both at 16.0%). This translates to approximately 7% higher energy yield per unit of roof area compared to weaker competitors in the 150-170 Wp segment.

25-year linear power warranty

The manufacturer guarantees linear power degradation over 25 years, enabling precise LCOE calculations and simplifying financial viability analyses. A 25-year horizon is the Tier-1 standard and meets the requirements of most externally financed projects.

Mono PERC - strong low-irradiance performance

The rear-surface passivation layer in PERC cells improves spectral response and efficiency at low irradiance levels (overcast mornings, diffuse light) compared to standard mono cells without PERC. In Poland's climate (approx. 1,000-1,100 kWh/m²/year, with a high proportion of low-irradiance days) this meaningfully increases annual energy yield.

5 power variants (150-170 Wp)

The series covers 5 models across the 150-170 Wp range, enabling precise system sizing to available roof area without over-engineering the system or adding supplemental MPPT inputs to the inverter.

Trade-offs
PERC: higher degradation rate vs. TOPCon

PERC modules degrade at 0.45-0.55%/year, while N-type TOPCon cells show 0.30-0.40%/year (SurgePV 2026 field data; manufacturer warranty baselines: PERC 0.55%/year vs. TOPCon 0.40%/year). Over 25 years, this results in a cumulative energy yield difference of approximately 3-4 percentage points against the P2 series.

Low module power vs. current market standard

The 150-170 Wp range sits far below the current market standard. Modern Tier-1 modules from the same manufacturer (JA Solar DeepBlue 4.0 Pro TOPCon: 580-620 Wp) deliver 3.5-4× higher unit power. A 10 kWp system using the P2 series requires approximately 59-67 modules versus 16-18 for 580 Wp panels - significantly higher BoS costs and installation labor.

12-year product warranty - below premium

The 12-year product warranty falls short of premium manufacturers (Panasonic: 25 years, REC Alpha: 20 years). After year 12, the cost of replacing a defective module rests with the investor, increasing total cost of ownership over the installation's lifetime.

About the P2 series series

6 answered

These answers cover the whole series. Where a figure differs, the specification above is this module's own.

What warranty does the JA Solar P2 series come with?
The JA Solar P2 series includes a 12-year product warranty covering material and manufacturing defects, plus a 25-year linear power output warranty. After 25 years of operation, the module is guaranteed to retain at least 84.8% of its initial rated power. These warranty terms are strong for this product tier and provide a reliable baseline for calculating return on investment.
Are JA Solar P2 panels suitable for a partially shaded roof?
Yes. The P2 series was designed to minimize energy losses under non-uniform irradiance conditions, such as shading from chimneys, dormers, or neighboring buildings. The module's electrical architecture limits the weak-cell effect, so the rest of the array continues to produce power even when part of a module is shaded. For roofs with heavy or persistent shading, adding power optimizers is still recommended.
What is PERC technology in the JA Solar P2 panels and is it worth it?
PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) is a monocrystalline cell technology that adds a rear passivation layer to reflect unabsorbed light back into the silicon structure. In practice, this delivers higher conversion efficiency and better performance under diffuse light, such as on overcast days. In the P2 series, PERC translates to better daily energy yield compared to conventional BSF cells, without a significant price premium.
What is the maximum power output of a JA Solar P2 panel and what installations is it best suited for?
P2 series modules reach up to 170 Wp. This output is typical of smaller or earlier-generation panel formats, making the series best suited for supplementing an existing array, mounting on limited roof space, or applications where installation area or mounting positions are constrained. For a new full-scale residential installation, it is worth checking whether higher-wattage P2 variants are currently available.
Do JA Solar P2 panels perform well in cloudy weather or at low temperatures?
Yes. The PERC cells used in the P2 series have a favorable temperature coefficient, meaning that in cold but sunny conditions the module can briefly exceed its rated output. Under diffuse light on overcast days, PERC technology also delivers better yield than conventional BSF cells. The P2 series is designed for year-round operation in Central European climate conditions.
Why choose JA Solar as a manufacturer - what does Tier 1 status mean?
JA Solar has appeared on the Bloomberg NEF Tier 1 list for many years, a ranking that assesses manufacturers based on financial credibility and their ability to honor long-term warranties. Headquartered in China, the company's production scale and global presence ensure service availability and spare parts continuity. For the end investor, this means the 12+25-year warranty has real backing, not just a paper commitment.
