## Summary

Q-Cells was founded in Germany in 1999 and was acquired by South Korean industrial conglomerate Hanwha in 2012, operating today as Hanwha Qcells with its global headquarters in Seoul and a major manufacturing hub in Dalton, Georgia, United States. Qcells holds a "Top Tier Class" bankability rating from BloombergNEF and was named to S&P Global's 2025 Tier 1 Cleantech Companies list, reflecting strong institutional confidence. The company has been scaling its U.S. module output toward roughly 8-9 GW annually, and by early 2026 its Cartersville, Georgia plant is expected to give it the only fully integrated silicon-based solar value chain in the country. SolarWorld AG was a German manufacturer headquartered in Bonn, once one of Europe's largest and most respected panel producers, with a significant factory in Hillsboro, Oregon. However, the company filed for insolvency in May 2017 under prolonged pricing pressure from Asian competitors, was briefly revived as SolarWorld Industries GmbH later that year, and then collapsed into insolvency a second time in March 2018. SolarWorld has been dormant ever since. Qcells holds a far stronger institutional footprint as an active, bankable manufacturer; SolarWorld no longer operates.

Qcells currently offers two main residential and light-commercial product lines: the Q.TRON series, built on TOPCon cell technology and reaching efficiencies reported at up to 22.5-23.7% for top variants, and the Q.PEAK DUO series, which uses monocrystalline PERC cells and targets buyers seeking strong value at a slightly lower price point. Both carry 25-year product and performance warranties backed by a solvent, global corporation. SolarWorld's flagship line was the Sunmodule series - a well-regarded range of mono- and polycrystalline panels that in their era offered reliable performance and an industry-leading 25-year linear power output guarantee. Those panels remain installed across many residential and commercial rooftops worldwide, but no new modules can be purchased, and warranty support from the original manufacturer is unavailable.

For any buyer in 2025 and beyond, Q-Cells is the only viable active choice between these two brands. SolarWorld panels already in service are generally reliable hardware, but the brand is defunct and purchasing new inventory is not possible. Q-Cells competes directly with other Tier 1 manufacturers such as REC, Panasonic, and LONGi at a premium-to-mid-market price point, making it a sound default for residential buyers in North America who want a panel with domestic manufacturing credentials and verified long-term warranty backing.
